Browsealoud - Making Websites Talk

Browsealoud reads web pages aloud for people who find it difficult to read online. Reading large amounts of text on screen can be difficult for those with literacy and visual impairments.

7 million people in the UK have literacy problems, many of whom have downloaded Browsealoud already. Inspire have subscribed to this service to increase the accessibility of our websites. Browsealoud can also mask information on the screen to help focus on a particular area.

Inspire celebrate 25th anniversary

Inspire recently enjoyed a civic reception at Aberdeen’s Town House to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The event, held to mark Inspire’s 25 years of supporting adults, young people and children with learning disabilities and additional support needs in the North East of Scotland, was a huge success, with a strong attendance of Inspire staff and people supported by Inspire, with over 80 Inspire representatives on the day enjoying a fantastic afternoon to celebrate the anniversary.

Karen Arthur, Chief Executive at Inspire, tells more about the reception and Inspire’s 25 year celebration: “We were delighted to be approached by the City Council to have a civic reception at the city’s Town House to celebrate Inspire’s 25 year anniversary. This was a fitting tribute to mark our landmark birthday and we were delighted with the day, with a great turnout of Inspire staff, people we support and City Council representatives on the day.”

Inspire currently provide a range of more than 60 services throughout Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray including 24 hour residential care, day services and respite care. Inspire Ventures consists of Café Coast and Meeting Rooms, Café Coast at the Library, Café Coast Extreme, Café Treehouse CIC and Café Academy, an employment training scheme within Café Coast. Through this scheme, Inspire aims to open opportunities into mainstream employment, increase social and economic independence, and break down barriers that are experienced by individuals with learning disabilities and additional support needs.
