Craig’s story

Craig’s story

Craig, who has a support need, began volunteering at Inspire in February initially as a Kitchen Assistant in Café Coast. Craig wanted to volunteer because he enjoyed being busy, liked working with food and enjoyed socialising with work colleagues. Some months on, Craig wanted to learn something new and requested experience of working in an office environment.

Working with the Volunteer Coordinator, a schedule was put together for Craig. As he benefits from routine, it was agreed that Craig would be solely in charge of ensuring that all computers and phones in the office were sanitised on a regular basis, that all stationery, printer paper and ink was stocked up, and that the stationery cupboard was accessible and tidy.

He was also placed in charge of stocking up the staff kitchen with refreshments and ensuring that there was always a plentiful supply of clean dish cloths. Craig has thrived in this role, and has become a valued member of the office team. He is also an enthusiastic events volunteer as well as avid fundraiser for Inspire, and has helped out at events such as the Firewalk and the Celebrate Aberdeen Parade. As a volunteer, and someone supported by Inspire, Craig is an excellent ambassador for the organisation.

“I really enjoy volunteering with Inspire, because I get to work with nice people and feel part of a team. I find it fun, and learn new things, meet new folk and make friends. I like that I have something to do and I feel valued.”
